The North Platte Community College Lady Knights Volleyball team went 1-1 on day one of the Jimmy Johns Invitational tournament. They defeated the Cowley County Community College Lady Tigers in the first match 26-24,20-25,25-17,25-22 to increase their winning streak to four.
The streak ended the next match when Kansas City (Kan) Community College Lady Blue Devils defeated the Lady Knights 25-23,16-25, 25-21, 25-19.
Cowley was rated sixth in the most recent National Junior College Athletic Association Division II poll. The Lady Knights were led in kills by Valerie Most with 19 and a .341 kill efficiency. MaKenna Ketter had 13 kills and a .229 kill efficiency. The Lady Knights finished the match with a .230 kill efficiency. Shelby Wolever had 37 set assists, Megan Chintala had 25 defensive digs, and Jessica Lovitt had seven total blocks to also lead the Lady Knights.
Cowley drops to 16-5 on the season.
The Lady Blue Devils were 4-17 on the season before beating the Lady Knights. In the match the Lady Knights were led by Most and Ketter with 16 and nine kills respectively. Josie Palmer added eight kills.
Wolever had 43 set assists, Lovitt had six total blocks and Most had 18 defensive digs.
The Lady Knights, now 11-16 on the season, continue action in the Jimmy Johns tournament on Saturday when they face the 19-2 Bismarck State College Lady Mystics at 11 am. They are rated 13th in the NJCAA Division II poll. The Lady Knights conclude their portion of the tournament by playing Highland (Kan.) Community College Lady Scotties at 3 pm.
The Lady Scotties are 15-8 on the season.
