Floyd C. Schmitt, age 76 of North Platte, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Great Plains Health. He was born March 1, 1939 to Floyd S. and Bernadine (Bennett) Schmitt at Detroit, MI. Floyd graduated from High School in 1957 in Detroit and later married Carole Ward on April 3, 1960 in North Platte. He served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Washington DC, Hawaii, California, Virginia Scotland, and Okinawa. After his retirement from the service, they moved back to North Platte where he was employed at various businesses including transportation for the American Red Cross. Carole passed away on June 6, 2005 and Floyd was later united in marriage to Sandy Young on January 7, 2011. Floyd enjoyed auctions, metal detecting, prospecting, and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Sandy Young-Schmitt of North Platte, sons, Chuck and Mitch of North Platte, and Kurt of San Diego, CA, daughter, Laurie (Kevin) Pitre of North Platte, step-children, Michelle (Dan) Okamoto and Galen (Lorilee) Young, sister, Elsie Pomeroy of Detroit, MI, step-grandchildren, Dalton, Dillon, Kyle, and Derek. Memorial services will be 10:30 am Friday, October 16, 2015 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Robin Storer officiating. Inurnment will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery with military honors graveside. Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so from 9am to 5 pm Thursday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.
