Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska football team practiced for just under 90 minutes without pads in the Hawks Championship Center on Thursday in preparation for Saturday’s game against Minnesota.

Head Coach Mike Riley had the following to say regarding injuries, “In the secondary, we were hopeful that Daniel Davie might be back, but it doesn’t look like it. At linebacker, Josh Banderas has made it back through the week and it looks like he will be ready to play. This is very good timing because it doesn’t look like Chris Weber will be able to play.”

Riley also mentioned that Luke Gifford will be questionable for Saturday’s game.

“Offensively, Chris Long hurt himself yesterday and Nick Gates is out,” Riley stated as he wrapped up the injuries.

“I admire Zach Sterup,” Riley said of Nick Gates’ backup at right tackle. ‘It’s a situation where he’s been a good football player and played a lot. In competitive battles that go on for spots, Zach has kept a good attitude and as a senior has played a lot. He’ll be ready.”

When asked if De’Mornay Pierson-El will begin to return punts again, Riley stated “That remains yet to be seen. We’re certainly looking forward to that time.”

Riley said he was pleased with this week’s practice and expects a strong effort from his team on Saturday against the 4-2 Gophers.
“Practice has been fine. I will be shocked if we don’t compete in the game.”

Saturday’s game against Minnesota kicks off at Nebraska 2:30 p.m. in Minneapolis. The game can be seen on ESPN2, and will also be available online at WatchESPN.
