The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team will close out their regular season this weekend when they travel to Fort Dodge, Iowa to participate in the Triton Invitational on the campus of Iowa Central Community College.
The Lady Knights will begin play on October 23 at noon when they face the North Iowa Community College Lady Trojans. The Lady Trojans are 13-13 on the season and are led by Kaylee Whittington with 312 kills, 44 service aces and 337 defensive digs. Karlie Niedert has 101 total blocks and Hailey Winter has 456 set assists to lead the Lady Trojans in those categories.
The host, Iowa Central Community College Tritons, is the next opponent at 4 pm on the 23rd. The Tritons are 16-12 on the season and received votes in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association Division II poll. They are led by Kiara Garcia Camacho, who has 505 defensive digs and 46 service aces. Ali Green leads the Tritons in kills with 350. Sadie Eden has 78 blocks and Katie Hoffman has 842 set assists.
On Saturday, October 24, the Lady Knights start out against the Iowa Lakes Lakers at 9 am. The Lakers are 26-9 on the season and also received votes in the latest rankings. The Lakers have had eight appearances in the NJCAA National Tournament in the past nine seasons. They are led by Megan Remund who had 60 blocks and 36 service aces. Kirstin Martindale has 476 kills. Steph Baker has 778 defensive digs and Rachel Sanow has 1372 set assists. Sanow leads the nation in Division II with 11.43 assists per set.
The Lady Knights conclude their regular season by facing the Ellsworth Community College Panthers at 3 pm on Saturday. The Panthers are 11-19 on the season. Mary Goergen has 240 kills and 45 service aces to lead the Panthers. Other leaders for the Panthers are Paola Soto with 247 defensive digs, April Jones with 36 blocks and Anna Smith with 445 set assists.
The Lady Knights are 13-19 on the season under first year head coach Alexa Hopping. Of the 32 matches that the Lady Knights have played ten of those matches have been against teams that were ranked in the top 20 at the time they played them, including three of the top four teams in the nation. The Lady Knights went 4-6 against nationally ranked opponents.
The Lady Knights are led in Kills by Valerie Most with 353. Most has 681 kills in her career which ranks her 12th on the all-time list. Most also leads the team with 59 service aces which places her in a tie for 18th on the all-time list for aces in a season. Aryn Meisinger has 57 service aces and 109 for her career which ranks her ninth on the career aces all-time list.
Shelby Wolever has 775 set assists to lead the Lady Knights. Wolever is currently 22nd on the all-time list for single season assists.
Other leaders for the Lady Knights are Jessica Lovitt with 103 total blocks and Megan Chintala with 543 defensive digs. Chintala needs 45 more digs to reach the all-time top 25 in season defensive digs.
The Lady Knights will host the NJCAA Region IX Division II tournament October 30-31.
