NPCC to Host Region IX Division II Volleyball Tournament

npcc region ixNorth Platte Community College will be the site of the National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX Division II Volleyball Tournament on October 30 – November 1.

The teams involved and the seedings are the Central Community College Lady raiders, who are seeded number one; the North Platte Community College Lady Knights, seeded number two; and Southeast Community College Lady Storm, seeded number three.

The tournament will begin on Friday, October 30 at 5 pm with North Platte playing Southeast.  The winner of that match will face Central at 7:30 pm to see who will advance to the championship game.

On Saturday, October 31, the losers of the first two matches will play in an elimination game at 11 am.  The winner of that match will advance to the championship which will be at 1:30 pm.  If that team defeats the team from the winner’s bracket there will be an “if necessary game on Sunday November 1 at 1 pm.  The winner of that match will be the NJCAA Region IX Division II champion.

The Lady Raiders, who gets a bye in the first round comes into the tournament with a 26-11 record and 3-1 in Region IX Division II play is coached by Mary Young.  They have had 1632 kills as a team led by Payton Chohon who has 461 kills.  Chohon leads the region in kills and kills per set with 3.52. Keely Woods leads the Region with a .296 Kill efficiency.  Alyssa Thege leads the Lady Raiders with 509 defensive digs. Riley Dorn has 1437 assists and 11.05 assists per set to lead the region in that category.

The Lady Knights, coached by Alexa Hopping, have a 15-22 season record and 2-2 in Region IX play.  They have 1359 team kills and are led by Valerie Most, who has 353 kills and a .207 kill efficiency.  Jessica Lovitt leads the Lady Knights with a .261 kill efficiency with 499 total attempts.  Megan Chintala has 622 defensive digs, which leads Region IX.  Shelby Wolever has 910 assists  and 7.11 assists per set, which are third in the region.  Lovitt also leads the region in blocks per set at 0.89.

The Lady Storm, coached by Carrie Foster-Puhalla, are 10-22 on the season and 1-3 in Region IX.  They have 1084 team kills, led by Amara Meeks with 299 kills.  Meeks also leads the Lady Storm with a .233 kill efficiency.  Abbey Humlicek has 329 defensive digs to lead the team.  Shelby Lineberry lead the Lady Storm with 938 assists and 8.38 assists per set.  Sydni Lee has 94 blocks to lead the Lady Storm.

All matches will be held at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium on the South Campus of North Platte Community College and will be live streamed on www.coachesaid.com.
