Lincoln, Neb. – The Husker football team continued preparations for Saturday’s game against Michigan State with a practice that lasted approximately 90 minutes in Memorial Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
Offensive Coordinator Danny Langsdorf sang praises of the Spartans’ defensive line as he prepares the offense for it.
“Their line is really good, best we’ve faced.” said Langsdorf. “That’s going to be the best front four we’ve seen probably since BYU. I think the biggest thing will be blocking their front four.”
Coach Langsdorf went on to talk about the health status of junior running back Terrell Newby as well as the running back corps in general. Newby left Saturday’s game at Purdue with an injury.
“Hopefully we’ll have him. He’s just trying to get healthy, and we’ll see as we go further along.” said Langsdorf. “We’ve been a little beat up there, so that’s a little bit of a concern, but we’ve had good minutes from Imani [Cross] and Devine [Ozigbo] through the season. We’ll have to keep getting those guys ready.”
Coach Langsdorf talked about how he plans on using the running game against Michigan State’s defense Saturday.
“I think having some misdirection helps us with the speed of their defense and the way they react and flow.” said Langsdorf. “But I also think we have to go right at some people…I think just continuing to block them, use great technique, move our feet, play with good pad level and create some holes for those backs will help us tremendously in that run game.”
Coach Langsdorf continued to talk about some of the things he saw from quarterback Ryker Fyfe against Purdue, as the junior threw for 407 yards and four TDs in his first career start.
“I think he really got rid of the ball quickly. I thought he made some excellent reads, some accurate throws. I thought he was really sharp.” said Langsdorf. “My confidence in him is much better this week than before he played.”
Coach Langsdorf proceeded to say that junior quarterback Tommy Armstrong is looking good in practice and how he may make a significant difference against Michigan State.
“He looks like he’s going to be fine and healthy. He threw the ball around well and he looks like he’s much better than he was last week.” said Langsdorf. “You have the ability with a guy who can run around to pose some more threats to them. It’s good to have a guy that’s back and healthy and mobile again and ready to go.”
