The North Platte Community College Knights Basketball team lost to the Dodge City Community College Conquistadors 75-61 on Tuesday night on the road.
The Knights kept it close in the first half, only trailing by two 29-27 at the break.
Knights Head Coach Kevin O’Connor said, “We did some good things in the first half to take the lead.”
After trailing 9-4 early the Knights went on a 8-0 run to take a 12-9 lead. David Ramon and Jordan Mills each hit a three-pointer during the run.
In the second half, the Conquistadors led 33-31. The Conquistadors went on a 12-0 run to increase their lead to 14, 46-31. The Knights were able to cut the lead to eight, but that was the closest they would come.
O’Connor said,” We played a talented team and had no answer for their point guard.”
Dodge City’s point guard was Lorenzo Dillard, who finished the game with a game-high 21 points. Dillard went 6-8 from the field, including one three-pointer and 8-8 from the free throw line.
The Conquistadors had two others finish in double figures. James Newton finished with 20 points and Jamie Rutherford contributed 10 points and had eight rebounds.
The Knights were led in scoring by Mills and Tyree Peter, each having 12 points. Diontae Champion and Tim Wagner each had nine points. Peter also grabbed 10 rebounds for his second double-double on the season.
O’Connor said, “This is not the end of the season, We need to go back at it and get better.”
The Knights are now 2-1 on the season. They will play their first home game on Saturday, November 7 when they play Fort Carson. Game time is 3 pm. You can hear the game live on ESPN Radio 1410.
