Lincoln – Nebraska men’s basketball coach Tim Miles announced Thursday that Isaiah Roby (Dixon, Ill.) has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to attend the University of Nebraska and play basketball for the Huskers beginning in the 2016-17 season. Roby is the second player in this year’s signing class and joins Jeriah Horne, who signed his NLI on Wednesday, Roby’s signing gives Miles a pair of recruits among the nation’s top 150 by Rivals.com.

Roby is ranked in the top-100 nationally by Scout.com and is considered by Scout and the Chicago Sun-Times as one of the top two seniors in the state entering the 2015-16 season.  Roby is the third top-100 prospect from the state of Illinois signed by the Huskers in the last two years, joining current Husker freshmen Ed Morrow Jr., and Glynn Watson Jr., both of whom are expected to see significant action in 2015-16.

Miles believes that Roby’s skill set, versatility and basketball IQ will allow him to be an impact player early in his college career.

“Isaiah is an extremely long and versatile player,” Miles said. “At 6-8, his ability to impact the game at both ends of the court is impressive. He is a complete player who shoots, rebounds and passes very well and has the ability to anticipate steals and block shots.

“Isaiah has been committed to the Huskers for over a year and never wavered,” Miles said. “That says a lot about his character and belief in our plan for him and his vision of us!”

A 6-foot-8, 205-pound forward who attends Dixon High School in Illinois, Roby is a four-star prospect by Scout and Rivals and a three-star selection by ESPN.com. He is ranked 89th nationally by Scout.com, which also considers him as the top senior in the state of Illinois in the class of 2016. Roby is also rated No. 104 nationally by Rivals as he begins his senior season playing for Jason Mead. Roby is listed as the No. 28 small forward nationally by ESPN and was among the top prospects in the state after helping Dixon High School to 51 wins over the last two seasons.

As a junior, Roby was a second-team all-state Class 3A selection by the Associated Press and a second-team all-state in Classes 3A/4A by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association. He led Dixon High School to a 28-2 record and a regional finals appearance in 2014-15. Roby averaged 12.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2.6 steals and 3.7 blocks per game during his junior year, highlighted by a triple-double of 23 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocked shots in one game. As a sophomore, Roby showed his all-around game, averaging 10.6 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.1 blocks, 2.7 assists and 1.9 steals per game in helping the school improve from three to 23 wins and earn the school’s first district title since 1986. He played AAU ball for the Quad City Elite and coach Logan Wynn, and also saw time with the Spiece Indy Heat in the EYBL last spring.

In addition to his basketball exploits, Roby placed eighth in the high jump in the Illinois Class 2A meet in 2015 after clearing 6-8 earlier in the season.  The son of Roderick and Danielle Roby, Isaiah committed to Nebraska in October of 2014, and also looked at Iowa, Georgia and Creighton among numerous schools.
