NPCC Knights Basketball Defeats Hastings JV

The North Platte Community College Knights basketball team defeated the Hastings College Broncos Junior Varsity 92-64 Saturday afternoon at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.

The Knights led throughout the game. The last tie was at six with 17:23 to play in the first half.  After that the Knights controlled the game.  In the first half, the Knights led by 27-13 for their largest lead of the half.  The Broncos did cut into the Knights lead to pull within seven at halftime 43-36.

In the second half the Knights extended their lead by going on a 20-0 to start the half to lead 63-36. The Broncos could only cut the lead down to 16 at 69-53 after going on a 17-6 run.

Knights assistant coach Ryan Glenney said “Our defensive effort was more consistent in the second half.  We have some improvements to make but happy with the win.”

The Knights, who are now 4-1 were led in scoring by Diontae Champion with 24 points.  Tim Wagner was next with 22 points.  The only other Knight to score in double figures was David Ramon who ended up with 11 points.

Tyree Peter had 12 rebounds to lead the Knights. Peter scored eight points, just two points shy of a double-double.

The Broncos had were led by Calisto Nyambura with 12 points.  Tyler Hedlund added 10 points.

Christian Buhr grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Broncos.
