The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team defeated the Colby Community College Lady Trojans 46-36 Saturday afternoon at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.
The game was a low scoring affair with the Lady Knights jumping out to a 13-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Trojans only made two field goals out of 25 attempts for eight percent in the first half. One of the field goals was costly to the Lady Trojans when their leading scorer and rebounder on the season, Tanaka Gapare, suffered an apparent knee injury.
The Lady Knights led at halftime 20-12.
Lady Knights assistant coach Nolan Collins said, “Tonight was not the most pretty of wins, but the girls hung in there and found a way to get the win. I like where we are at defensively, the girls really came out ready to play and it showed in the first quarter.”
The Lady Knights are now 4-2 on the season. They were led in scoring by Suhmer Mitchell who had 11 points. Next in scoring was Sarah Mahr with eight points.
Zulema Viescas led the Lady Knights in rebounding with seven.
