A North Platte man is facing a felony domestic assault charge after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, who is pregnant.

On Saturday, at around 5:41 pm, officers with the North Platte Police Department responded to the report of a disturbance between a man and woman in the area of 6th and Washington Streets.

An officer arrived and located the male suspect, but when he ordered the man to stop, he took off running.

Other officers converged on the scene and were able to apprehend the suspect, Macon Hehner, and restrain him.

Police say that when Hehner initially ran, he was carrying a bag, but no longer had the bag in his possession when he was apprehended.

An officer was able to locate the bag and found it contained brass knuckles, illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Officers made contact with the female, who claimed she was pregnant with Hehner’s child.  She stated that she had been allowing Hehner to stay in her house, but kicked him out when she discovered drugs.

She said when Hehner left the house, she followed him and contacted police.  Once Hehner discovered she was on the phone, the victim alleged that he slapped the phone our of her hand, causing injuries to her face and neck.

Hehner was placed under arrest and charged with felony domestic assault, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana-less than one ounce and carrying a concealed weapon.

Police say the domestic assault charge was enhanced to a felony due to prior convictions and the fact the victim was pregnant.

They say more charges are likely one tests from the Nebraska State Patrol Lab are completed.
