AUDIO: NPCC Knights Basketball defeat York College JV

tyree peter tim wagnerThe North Platte Community College Knights defeated the York College Junior Varsity Panthers on Wednesday 104-59 at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.

The Knights never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 6-0 lead and increasing the lead to 28-10 at the ten minute mark.  The lead was as much as 35 in the first half. With four minutes left the Panthers cut into the lead of the Knights when Jamarcus Cooksey drained four three-pointers.

Knights Head Coach Kevin O’Connor said, “The starters did some good things.  It took a couple of possessions to get going, but after that opened the game up.”

Tim Wagner led the attack scoring 20 of his 33 points in the first half of the game.  The Knights held a 51-27 lead at the break.

In the second half the Knights continued to build their lead.  With just under 10 minutes left in the game, the Knights went to their bench to rest the starters and see what the reserves could do.

O’Connor said, “Recess is over, time to get to work.”

The Knights only have one more junior varsity team left on the schedule.

The Knights, now 5-1 on the season were led by Wagner’s 33 points.  Three other Knights reached double digits in scoring.  Diontae Champion added 14 points, David Ramon added 11 and Victor Lewis had 10 points.  Lewis dished out four assists to lead the Knights.

On the boards the Knights led the Panthers 50-33 led by Tyree Peter with nine rebounds.  Ramon and Jon-Reese Woodson added seven boards.

The Panthers were led in scoring by Cooksey, who ended with 21 points.  Hunter Niceswander and Josiah Ahart each added nine points.  Ahart led the Panthers with six rebounds.

The Knights will try to avenge their only loss of the season when they host Dodge City Community College on Saturday at 7 pm.  The game was originally scheduled at four.

The game is senior citizens night.  All seniors, 65 years of age and older will be admitted free.

The game will also be when the Knight’s new mascot’s name will be revealed. A contest to name the mascot has been going on facebook.  There is still time to vote.
