Man Suspected of Firing Shots During Grand Island Chase Still Sought

Grand-Island-PoliceGRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) — Authorities are still searching for a man who may have fired his weapon at a pursuing officer in Grand Island.

The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. Monday at a McDonald’s restaurant on West Second Street. Police say the officer had been dispatched to the restaurant to remove a sleeping man. But when the officer arrived he came upon the man holding the gun on another man.

Police Capt. Dean Elliott says the officer and witnesses reported hearing shots as the man ran off upon seeing the officer. Elliott says it’s not known whether the man had aimed at the officer. Elliott also says police have had previous contacts with the man.

Sgt. Bud Edwards said Thursday that the man had not been found. His name hasn’t been released.
