Virginia Irene Meyer, age 90, of Wellfleet, NE, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE.
Virginia was born April 28, 1925, to Ward Valdo and Bertha May Lenz Tower at Grant, NE. She grew up in the Dickens area and graduated in 1942 from Dickens High School in a class that included her and two boys.
After graduation Virginia married Kenneth Carl Meyer on June 1, 1942, in Trenton, NE. They made their home on the Willow Creek, south of Dickens, NE before moving to the family ranch southeast of Dickens. Virginia lived on the ranch or in the Dickens area her entire life and was a member of the Wellfleet United Methodist Church.
She loved her lawn, gardening and flowers, especially her roses which she enjoyed growing. Virginia also did a lot of handy work and liked embroidering, crocheting and sewing. She was a great cook and made the best coleslaw and potato salad. Virginia dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and liked having the neighbors over and playing cards.
She leaves behind her children, Kenton (Dawn) Meyer, of Fairmont, NE, and Kelley (Rick) Sexson, of Farnam, NE; two grandchildren, Justin Sexson and Jessica (Caleb) Nutt; two great-grandchildren, Reid and Shaylyn; and her hired man, Ken Tidyman, who has been with the family for 27 years and lives south of the ranch.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; and parents, Ward and Bertha Tower.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 4, 2015, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Pastors Greg Boller and Brian Nicklas officiating. Burial will follow in the Dickens Cemetery. Visitation and family greeting friends will be Thursday from 1 to 7 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore which is in charge of arrangements.
