The North Platte Community College Lady Knights were defeated by the Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen on Wednesday night at the Bank of Colorado Event Center 67-51.
The Plainswomen started out the game with a 7-2 run and extended their lead to 19-11 behind the hot shooting of Jessica Renata with four 3-point field goals. The Knights came back with a 9-2 run with 3-pointers by Mickenzie Brennan and BreAsia Allison to end the first quarter trailing the Plainswomen 21-20.
In the second quarter, the Lady Knights continued their run to take a 25-22 lead. The Plainswomen finished out the half on a 10-4 run to lead at halftime 32-29.
The third quarter began with the Plainswomen going on an 18-7 run to increase their lead to 50-36. The Lady Knights cut the lead at the end of the third to 53-43.
In the fourth quarter the Lady Knights shooting went cold hitting only 3 for 13 from the field for a shooting percentage of 23 percent to allow the Plainswomen to go on a 14-0 run to put the game away with a 24 point lead 67-43.
The Lady Knights, 4-4 on the season were led in scoring by Sarah Mahr with 15 points. Mahr had eight of her 15 in the first quarter and the Plainswomen double-teamed her for the rest of the game. Suhmer Mitchell was the only other Lady Knight in double figures with 10 points. Mahr also led the Knights in rebounding with six rebounds.
The Plainswomen outrebounded the Lady Knights 53-34 in the game.
The Plainswomen, 4-5 on the season, had three players in double figures led by Nicole Muragarren with 24 points. Next in scoring was Jennae Fieldgrove with 17 points. Renata ended up with 12 points, all of which came in the first quarter. Muragarren led the Plainsmen with nine rebounds.
The Lady Knights are in action again on December 9 when they travel to Colby Community College. Game time is 6 pm and can be heard on ESPN 1410 radio and www.northplattepost.com.
