crime-scene-police-shootOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Omaha residents have gathered to urge the community to get more involved to prevent violence after a series of shootings.

22-year-old Destacia Straughn and her 2-year-old daughter were fatally shot Sunday, two people were killed Wednesday afternoon and four people were shot at separate locations on Wednesday evening.

Organizers spoke Thursday at the Omaha Home for Boys, where Omaha 360 was meeting. Omaha 360 is an organization that works to stop violence.

Primus Jones, president of the North Omaha Neighborhood Alliance, urged people to call police if they see something suspicious or have information about a crime.

Organizers called on those having a difficult time coping with anger to seek counseling and for residents to get involved in their community in some way.
