Fred Herman Maire

Fred Herman Maire, 81 of Sutherland passed away December 12, 2015 at Great Plains Health. Fred was born April 1, 1934 in Mullen, NE to Herman and Grace (Sexton) Maire.
Fred attended school in Mullen where he excelled at football and basketball. He worked for Peter Kewitt Construction driving a truck for a year, then returned home to the ranch where he ranched and was a rodeo bareback rider. He met Gladith Capellen and they were married June 13, 1953 in Mullen. The couple lived on the main family ranch south of Mullen, continued to ranch and haul cattle all over the country, then switched to long hauls with a reefer trailer traveling all over North America. He was very active in the local roping club and with his children in 4-H. He also helped the neighbor girls with their 4-H projects. Fred was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He taught many guys to drive semis. The couple moved off the ranch in 1985 and bought the Triangle Motel in North Platte, which they owned and operated for 10 years before moving to a farm west of Sutherland where they continued to raise cattle and farm.
Survivors include his wife, Gladith of Sutherland; daughters, Kathy (Jack) Haney of Hershey, Risa (Rick) Peters, and Lori (Dave) Yoshida all of North Platte; grandchildren, Dan (Monti) Haney of Ashby, Jennifer Lankaster of Hershey, Fred (Dawn) Peters of Hershey, Rebecca (Gilbert Gaona) Peters of North Platte, Sandi (Devin) Ruff of Sutherland, Wendy (Cameron) Bain of Paxton, Denise (Kyle) Hoyt of Mullen, Brenda (Katie) Hampton of Omaha, and Christina, Shelby and Dodge Yoshida all of North Platte; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Gabe Haney, Kinlee, Everet and Fredrick Peters, Connor Todd, Treven and Jaycee Hippwell, Caidan, Caleb, Chandler and Camron Gaona, Alexus Garrick, Ryder, Brogan, Taigen and Aislyn Ruff, Michelle Hunt, Staylor Bain, and Gracie, Izzy and Sadie Hoyt; siblings, Goldie Little of Mullen, Ruby Davidson of Center, NE, and Eunice Ritenour of Mullen; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Freda Hampton; brother, Roy Maire; and an infant sister Alice.
Memorials are suggested to the Christian Cowboy Association and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. CST Thursday, December 17, 2015 at the Hershey Baptist Church with Reverend Kevin Hendricks officiating. Burial will take place 3:00 p.m. MST at the Cedarview Cemetery in Mullen. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
