The North Platte Community College Lady Knights were defeated by the Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers 85-75 on Saturday afternoon.
After the Lady Knights’ Suhmer Mitchell started out the game scoring the first two points, Katrina Terrell scored the next eight points to put the Lady Lancers ahead 8-2. The Lady Lancers extended the lead to 18-8 and maintained that lead through the rest of the first quarter to take a 24-14 lead.
In the second quarter, the Lady Lancers continued to extend their lead and led 41-22 for their biggest lead of the game. The Lady Knights ended the half on a 13-2 run to cut the lead to nine points at 44-35 at the half.
In the second half, the Lady Knights pulled within five at 57-52, but Eastern Wyoming came back and led 63-54 at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Knights once again pulled within five points at 67-62 but again the Lady Lancers stretched the lead out to win the game by 10.
The Lady Knights are now 5-6 on the season. They were led by Zulema Viescas, who had a career high 20 points. Djimonii Jackson was next in scoring with 18 points. Sarah Mahr and Mitchell each had 11 points. Mahr led the Lady Knights in rebounding with eight rebounds.
The Lady Lancers are 7-10 on the season. Emily Evans scored a game high 22 points to lead them in scoring. Terrell finished with 15 points and Angalyn Latin added 14 to the scoring column for the Lady Lancers. Jacquelene Saucedo led with eight rebounds.
The Lady Knights are off for semester break until they travel to Crete, Neb. to play Doane College Junior Varsity on January 11 at 5 pm.
