Shirley Eileen Hoban, age 77, of North Platte, NE, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE.
Shirley was born July 15, 1938, to Kenneth and Lucille Armstrong Halverson at Pawnee City, NE. The family later moved to Colorado before settling in North Platte where Shirley attended school and graduated from North Platte High School in 1956.
On November 21, 1956, Shirley was united in marriage to William Ronald Hoban in North Platte where they made their home. She was a stay at home mom while the four kids were young and helped with Girl Scouts when Melody was a Scout. Shirley then worked at ESU #16 as a Teacher’s Aide for 15 years before retiring.
Shirley enjoyed sewing, canning and camping. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren, granddogs and great-grandchildren.
She leaves behind her children, Timothy Hoban, Melody Otzel and Melinda Hoban, all of North Platte, and Ken (Janet) Hoban, of Grand Island, NE; four grandchildren, Jeremy and Jessica Otzel, Bethany (Taylor) Hoffmann and Sarah Hoban; two great-grandchildren, Peityn Otzel and Harper Story; her brother, Charles (Connie) Halverson, of Albuquerque, NM; and many nieces, nephews and other family.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Ron; parents, Kenneth and Lucille Halverson; and a brother, Ronald Halverson.
Cremation was chosen. A graveside memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 17, 2015, in Fort McPherson National Cemetery with Chaplain Gary Smith officiating. The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore which is in charge of arrangements. The family has established a memorial.
