The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team were defeated by the Doane College Junior Varsity Lady Tigers 69-61 on Monday night.
The Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Knights back in November 54-51 in North Platte. The Lady Knights are 13-8 all-time against Doane College JV.
Lady Knights Head Coach Richard Thurin said, “We played really well in the first half, but didn’t play very well on defense in the second half. We missed key free throws.”
The Lady Knights started the game with a 14-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. Sarah Mahr scored 10 points in the first quarter and Djimonii Jackson had four points.
In the second quarter, the Lady Knights extended their lead to 38-27 at the half.
The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Knights in the third quarter 19-13 to cut the Lady Knights lead to five going into the fourth quarter 51-46.
The Lady Tigers finished off the game by scoring 23 points in the fourth quarter and allowing only 10 points to the Lady Knights to earn the victory.
The Lady Knights are now 6-6 on the season. They were led in scoring by Mahr, who led all scorers with 26 points. Zulema Viescas was the only other Lady Knight to score in double figures, she finished with 11 points.
The Lady Tigers were led in scoring by Julia Reed with 23 points. Karolyn Cahill added 15 points.
The Lady Knights will travel to Columbus on Saturday, January 16 for a National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX Division II contest against Central Community College. Game time is 4:00 pm CST.
