NPCC to Host Otero Junior College on Family Night

npcc oteroThe North Platte Community College Knights will host the Otero Junior College Rattlers at 7 p.m. Friday in the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium on NPCC’s South Campus.

The night is designated as “Fill the Gym / Family Night.”  Some of the events that will take place that evening will be free admittance for children under 12 with a paid adult admission, a free-throw contest for children, an opportunity for families to take their own pictures with Knightro, the new mascot, and face painting by the NPCC Art Department. Knight’s stickers will be given to the first 100 children in attendance.

The game is also a National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX South Sub-Region contest. The game will help in the seeding for the Region IX Division I tournament in March. The top four seeds will host a first-round game, and the winners of those games will advance to the eight-team tournament at the South Sub-Region top seed.

The Rattlers, are currently 14-3 on the season, 4-0 and the top seed in the South Sub-Region.  They are averaging 88.6 points per game and allowing 69.2 points per game.   Jacob Holland leads the Rattlers in scoring with 16 points per game.  Derris Miles is the only other Rattler in double figures at 13.8 points per game. There are three more Rattlers who are above the nine points per game mark.  They are Brandon Book (9.6 ppg), Vince Holmes (9.4) ppg and Charles Gavin (9.4 ppg).  Holmes also dishes out 4.5 assists a game.  Zach Lee leads the Rattlers in rebounds with 6.3 boards a game.

The Knights are 8-7 on the season and 2-3 in South Sub-Region play.  They are hoping to break a two-game losing streak.  The Knights are averaging 85.7 points per game and allowing 76.1 points per game.  Tim Wagner leads the Knights in scoring with a 17.8 average.  Diontae Champion is next with 16.7 points per game.  Wagner also leads in assists with 4.5 per game.  Tyree Peter is leading the Knights in rebounds with 8.7 rebounds per game which is second in the South Sub-Region.  Wagner and Champion are third and fourth respectively in scoring in Region IX South Sub-Region.
