North Platte – The North Platte Community College Knights men and women’s basketball teams will host the Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen on Tuesday January 26 at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium on the South Campus of NPCC.
On the women’s side the Plainswomen are a National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX Division I program and will not affect regional standings for either team. The Lady Knights are a Division II team.
The Plainswomen defeated the Lady Knights in Sterling, Colo. on December 2, 67-51. The Lady Knights are hoping to reverse fortunes on their home court The Lady Knights are 7-48 all-time against the Plainswomen, but defeated them last season in North Platte, 63-55.
The Plainswomen are 6-13 overall and 2-5 in Region IX Division I play. They are scoring 59.7 points per game (ppg), while allowing 68.5 ppg.
The Plainswomen have no individual cumulative stats for the season.
The Lady Knights are 8-7 overall and 1-1 in Division II play. They are on a two game winning streak. The Lady Knights re averaging 64.5 ppg and allowing 64.3 ppg.
Sarah Mahr leads the Lady Knights in scoring with a 15.4 ppg average. Suhmer Mitchell is the only other Lady Knight to average double-digits at 12.1 ppg.
On the men’s side, the contest is a Region IX South Sub-Region game. The Knights are 4-4 and the Plainsmen are 4-5 in the South Sub-Region. The top four schools in the sub-region will host first round games in the Region IX tournament.
The Plainsmen are 8-12 overall on the season. They are currently on a four game losing streak. The Plainsman average 87.4 ppg and allow 87.2 ppg.
Marcus Cooper leads the Plainsmen in scoring with a 14.5 ppg average. Robert Jones is second on the team at 14.2 ppg. The only other Plainsman to average in double digits is James Dumes at 10.7 ppg. Jones scored 30 points against the Knights in the earlier matchup, which the Plainsman won 103-89 in Sterling. Jones also leads the Plainsmen in rebounding at 6.3 rebounds per game.
The Knights are 12-8 on the season and are on a four game winning streak. They are averaging 86.2 ppg and allowing 76.2 ppg.
Tim Wagner leads the Knights in scoring with a 16.4 ppg average. Diontae Champion is next at 14.4 ppg. Leito Holloway and Tyree Peter round out the double digit scoring at 10.7 and 10.3 ppg respectively. Peter also is pulling down 9.7 rebounds per game.

Tip-off for the women’s game is 5:30 pm with the men’s game following approximately at 7:30.
