Officials Take Precautions After Nebraska Teen Dies from Meningitis

Medical-ChartPOLK, Neb. (AP) — Health officials are taking precautions after an eastern Nebraska teen died from an apparent case of meningitis.

Anyone who had close contact with the teen beforehand will be giving antibiotics as a precaution, but officials are not yet sure what type of meningitis the student had.

The teen was a student at High Plains Community Schools in Polk, Nebraska, before dying on Thursday. The student, who was a sophomore, wasn’t identified by officials.

School officials say the Central District Health Department isn’t treating this as a meningitis outbreak at this time.
