North Platte — The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team lost to the Southeast Community College Lady Storm 65-55 on Friday night at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.
The game was a National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX Division II game.
Suhmer Mitchell of the Lady Knights started off the scoring to give North Platte the early lead. Veshae Wilkinson answered back with a field goal and a three-pointer to give the Lady Storm the 5-2 lead. There were six lead changes in the first quarter and the Lady Storm held a 19-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Knights outscored Southeast 17-11 to tie the game at 30 at intermission. Linsey Frost hit a three-pointer to tie the game.
During the third quarter, the Lady Storm went on a 10-0 run to take the lead 40-30. They scored 21 points in the third quarter and allowed the Lady Knights to score 11 points to take a 51-41 lead at the end of the third.
The Lady Knights did cut the Lady Storm lead to three at 58-55, but the Lady Storm scored the final seven points to secure the win.
The Lady Storm improve to 11-13 overall and 1-2 in Region IX play. Bree Nelson- Matthews led the Lady Storm with 20 points. Wilkinson scored 17 points and had six rebounds.
The Lady Knights drop to 10-11 and 1-2 in Region IX play. Sarah Mahr led the Lady Knights with 12 points. Aljahnay Duncan was the only other Lady Knight to score in double figures with 10 points. Mahr also had eight rebounds to lead the Lady Knights.
