Arthur “Art” Wayne Lockhart, age 91 formerly of Lemoyne, passed away Friday February 19, 2016 at Linden Court Nursing Home in North Platte.
Art was born on August 6, 1924 in Stapleton, NE to Richard and Grace Harriet (Colburn) Lockhart. He was the 3rd living child born to his parents and had 4 surviving siblings. He grew up in the area and attended Banner School thru the 8th grade. In March of 1946 he joined the army and served as a medic in Japan with the Occupation Forces at the end of WWII thru May of 1947. In his civilian life Art worked for 60+ years for the Wilson Ranch near Lemoyne. He was truly a 19th Century Cowboy! He loved to ride, he could fix anything and he raised his own quarter horses. He was inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2008. Art loved kids and was very good natured.
Art is survived by his sister Ruth Reynolds of North Platte, NE; brother David Lockhart of Houston, TX; a slew of nieces and nephews; the Wilson family; as well as many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Richard Lockhart and Betty Northey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in his name and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. The family requests casual dress at his service as “Art was not a suit and tie kind of man.” Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday February 24, 2016 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home with Chaplain Deb Dishman officiating. Burial will follow at Loup Valley Cemetery near Stapleton. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday February 23, 2016 with family receiving friends from 6:00 until 8:00 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
