Broncos linebacker Von Miller earns Super Bowl MVP honors

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Linebacker Von Miller earned Super Bowl MVP honors Sunday night, forcing two fumbles and getting 2 1/2 sacks to help the Denver Broncos beat the Carolina Panthers 24-10 for the championship.

Five years after being drafted No. 2 behind Cam Newton, Miller harassed Carolina’s quarterback from start to finish.

Broncos D dominates Panthers in 24-10 Super Bowl win

DenverBroncosSANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Von Miller forced two fumbles to set up Denver’s two touchdowns and the Broncos defense frustrated Cam Newton all game to carry Peyton Manning to his second Super Bowl title with a 24-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Gas Prices Drop 8 Cents Over Past 2 Weeks to $1.82

gas-cardCAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) — The average price of gasoline has dropped 8 cents over the past two weeks, to $1.82 a gallon.

Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg said Sunday that the price is 37 cents per gallon under its year-ago point.

Lundberg says the price drop may continue if crude oil costs continue to slide.

In the Lower 48 states, the highest average price of regular gasoline was $2.62 per gallon in Los Angeles. The lowest was $1.44 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The U.S. average diesel price is $2.13 per gallon, down about 7 cents from two weeks ago.

Lincoln Woman Suspected of Drunken Driving After Car Hits House

lincoln-policeLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A Lincoln woman is facing a charge of drunken driving after her car smashed into a house Saturday night.

Lincoln Police say the crash happened around 10:30 p.m. Saturday on South 77th Street.

The 32-year-old woman’s car hit a mailbox and hit a brick home.

Two residents of the home told police the woman was trying to back out when they came outside to check on her.

Officers determined the woman had a blood-alcohol level of 0.148. That’s well above the legal limit of .08.

The crash caused about $5,000 damage to the home.

NPCC Defeat Western Nebraska in Important Sub-Region Contest

tyree peterNorth Platte —The North Platte Community College Knights basketball defeated the Western Nebraska Community College Cougars Saturday evening 90-73 in an important National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX South Sub-Region game.

The win also avenged a loss to the Cougars in Scottsbluff earlier in the season.

NPCC Lady Knights Basketball Lose to Northeast

duncanNorth Platte —The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team were defeated by the Northeast Community College Lady Hawks on “Girl Scout Night” at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Knights started out the game, taking the early lead 5-2.  The Lady Hawks went on a 14-4 run the rest of the quarter to take a 16-9 first quarter lead. Maeva Kitantou scored nine of the 16 to fuel the first quarter surge. Continue reading “NPCC Lady Knights Basketball Lose to Northeast”

Update on Shavon Shields
Shavon Shields was conscious on his way to the hospital. He had a CT scan, which was negative.  Shavon will follow UNL’s concussion protocol. He has been dismissed from the hospital.

Huskers Shoot Past Scarlet Knights

Shavon Shields scored seven of his 17 points in an 18-1 spurt, as Nebraska broke a three-game losing streak with an 87-63 win over Rutgers on Saturday.

The Huskers (13-11, 5-6 Big Ten) clamped down on the defensive end, holding Rutgers without a field goal for the final 7:35 of the half, as Nebraska turned a 33-27 deficit into an 11-point lead just before the half. Consecutive 3-pointers by Shields and Michael Jacobson started the run before Shields’ layup with 4:25 left in the half gave the hosts the lead for good. NPCC Knights Basketball Survives Scare Against EWC

jordan millsNorth Platte —  The North Platte Community College Knights basketball team narrowly escaped their home court with a 78-77 win over the Eastern Wyoming College Lancers on Friday night.

NPCC Lady Knights Defeat Eastern Wyoming

mickenie brennanNorth Platte — The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team defeated the Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers 65-47 Friday night at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.

The Lady Knights started out the game on an 8-2 run and never trailed in the game.  In the first quarter they led by as much as 10 points 21-11 after a three-pointer by Mickenzie Brennan with just under three minutes to play.  The Lady Lancers went on a 4-0 run to cut the Lady Knights lead to six at the end of the first quarter, 21-15.
