NPCC Knights Basketball Has Three on NCCAC Team

knights basketballNorth Platte – The Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference has announced its men’s basketball all-conference team for the 2015-16 season. Three North Platte Community College Knights were named.  Sophomores Tyree Peter and Tim Wagner were named, along with freshman Diontae Champion.

Peter, a sophomore from Omaha, was the top vote getter in the conference.  Peter led the Knights in rebounding with 10.2 rebounds per game.  He was fourth on the team with a 10.5 points per game scoring average.  He has 11 double-doubles on the season.  Peter is also the Knight’s single season record holder for offensive rebounds with 136, including 15 offensive rebounds against Southeast Community College, which is the Knight’s record for most offensive rebounds in a game.

Wagner, a sophomore from Galesville, WI, led the Knights for most of the season in scoring.  He is currently second on the Knights with a 14.3 average.  He leads the Knights in assists with 3.9 assists per game.  Wagner’s season high in scoring was 33 points against York College Junior Varsity.

Champion, a freshman from Arlington, Texas, leads the Knights in scoring at 14.9 ppg.  He also leads the Knights in steals with 79 on the season.  Champion’s season high was 29 points against Fort Carson Army Base.

Knight’s Head Coach Kevin O’Connor was named co-coach of the year along with Brandon Lenhart from McCook Community College.

O’Connor, in his 31st year as the Knights’ head coach, has been named NCCAC coach of the year 17 times.  The Knights under his coaching have won 17 NCCAC championships including the last five.

Lenhart has been coaching McCook nine seasons and this year’s team finished in a tie with North Platte for the conference championship.  His first during his tenure.

The remainder of the NCCAC team are: Austin Anderson and Lavius Rosemond from Central Community College; Hakim Davis, Lewis Diankulu and Mackuei (Peter) Puondak from McCook Community College; Snyder Cenecharles and Brandon Spencer from Southeast Community College.

Central’s Ruben Fuamba and Southeast’s Noah Scott were named Honorable Mention.
