Iowa City, Iowa – All-American TJ Dudley (184) fell to No. 3 seed Sammy Brooks of Iowa, 6-4, to take runner-up honors in the Big Ten Championships at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Dudley, the No. 4 seed, managed three wins during the tournament and will enter the NCAA Championships with a 20-6 record.
The Huskers finished fourth with 117 points behind Penn State (150.5), Iowa (127) and Ohio State (126). NU’s fourth-place finish is its best as a member of the Big Ten since joining the conference in 2011.
Tim Lambert finished fourth at 125 pounds. Lambert opened his day with a 7-1 decision over seventh-seeded Conor Youtsey of Michigan. In the third-place match, he lost to No. 2 seed Thomas Gilman by major decision.
Austin Wilson finished fourth at 165 pounds. Wilson won by medical forfeit against Anthony Perrotti of Rutgers in his first match. In the third-place match, he lost to No. 3 Steven Rodrigues, 4-2.
Aaron Studebaker took fourth place at 197 pounds. Studebaker downed Rutgers’ Hayden Hrymack by major decision, 14-2, in his first match of the day. He fell to No. 2 Brett Pfarr of Minnesota in the next match.
Eric Montoya took fifth place at 133 pounds. After suffering a 6-4 decision loss to No. 3 seed Jordan Conaway of Penn State in consolation semifinals, Montoya defeated No. 10 seed Anthony Giraldo of Rutgers, 7-3.
Jake Sueflohn finished fifth at 149 pounds. He lost to No. 4 seed Jason Tsirtsis of Northwestern, 3-2, but responded with a major decision over Rutgers’ Tyson Dippery in the fifth-place match.
Micah Barnes (174) and Collin Jensen (HWT) each took sixth after a pair of losses on Sunday.
Anthony Abidin (141) and Tyler Berger (157) each took seventh place to punch their tickets to the NCAA Championships. Abidin pinned Michigan’s George Fisher in 4:56, while Berger won a 12-5 decision over Wisconsin’s TJ Ruschell.
The Huskers conclude their season in the NCAA Championships at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y., March 17-19.
