North Platte – North Platte Community College Knights sophomore men’s basketball player Tyree Peter, was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX Division I men’s basketball All-Region Third Team.
The All-Region IX team consists of 18 players from 17 NJCAA Division I men’s basketball programs from Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado and Montana.
Peter, who came to the Knights from Omaha Benson High School, played two years for the Knights. During the 2015-16 season, Peter broke the single season offensive rebounding record for the Knights with 140 offensive rebounds, a record that has stood since the 1987-88 season. Peter also is currently ranked seventh nationally in NJCAA Division I in offensive rebounding and 22nd in total rebounding.
Peter averaged a double-double for the Knights during the 2015-16 season with 10.3 points per game and 10.1 rebounds per game. He is one of 22 players in the NJCAA Division I to average a double-double. He also led the Knights in blocked shots with 0.8 blocks.
Knights’ Head Coach Kevin O’Connor said, “Tyree came on strong the second half of this season during Region IX play. He had the most double-doubles of any player in Region IX this season. To break the college’s single season offensive rebounding record is evidence of his determination and fight. Most nights, he was competing against players taller and stronger, but that did not keep him from becoming one of the nation’s top 10 offensive rebounders.”
In Peter’s two-year career with the Knights, he pulled down 213 offensive rebounds and 513 total rebounds. He scored a total of 548 points and had 39 blocks.
O’Connor said, “While he was recognized by the other coaches for his basketball skills, it should be noted that he was also a tremendous teammate and leader, a solid student and is well-respected by fellow students for the great person that he is.”
Peter is the 35th Knight to be selected to the All-Region IX team in the history of the program.
