NPCC Knights Softball Splits with Luna CC

mikenzie decrowNorth Platte –The North Platte Community College Knights softball team split a doubleheader against the Luna Community College Roughriders on Sunday afternoon losing the first game 13-9 and winning the second game 10-5.

In the first game, Luna took the early lead 1-0 on a run by Lexi Madrid in the top of the first inning.  In their second inning, the Roughriders added three more runs to increase their lead to 4-0.

The Knights got on the board in their half of the second when Samantha Foster had a sacrifice fly to score Shelby Belloni to make the score 4-1 in favor of the Roughriders.  The Roughriders answered right back with runs by Destiny Navarro and Angela Duran to increase their lead to 6-1.

In the Knights’ third Samantha Gill singled and scored on a single by Caroline Motis to cut Luna’s lead to 6-2.

In their half of the fourth, the Roughriders added three runs to make the score 9-2.

Allie Vigil, the Knights first baseman scored to make the score 9-3 in the Knights half of the fourth. In the Knights fifth inning, North Platte scored five runs.  Four runs were driven in by a Makenzi DeCrow grand slam to pull the Knights within one at 9-8.

With the score 10-9, in favor of Luna, Navarro sealed the victory for the Roughriders with a three-run home run to make the score 13-9.

In the second game, the Knights Jessica Jarvis put the Knights ahead 1-0 by doubling and scoring on a single by Sara Villalobos.

The score remained that way until the Luna fourth inning when they scored five runs to put the Roughriders ahead 5-1.

The Knights answered back in the bottom of the fourth by scoring eight runs to put them ahead 9-5.  DeCrow hit her second and third home run of the day, a solo shot and a two-run home run in the fourth inning.

Jarvis drove in Tara Crouch for the Knights 10th run of the game in the fifth.

Villalobos went the distance in the second game on the mound to pick up the win for the Knights.

The Knights are now 6-15 on the season.  Luna drops to 6-9 on the year.

The Knights are in action next when they travel to McCook on March 16 to play the McCook Community College Indians.  Game times are at 5 pm and 7 pm CDT.
