Mary E, Gomez, age 103, of North Platte, died March 19, 2016 at Centennial Park Retirement Village. She was born on February 11, 1913 in Silao, GTO, Mexico to Victor and Florentina Therersa (Hernandez) Ybarra.
On August 23, 1931 she was united in marriage to Manuel Vieyra in Medford, OK. To this union 12 children were born.
Mary married Guadalupe Gomez on May 20, 1973 in Hugoton, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1983. Mary was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, and the VFW. She enjoyed traveling and fishing. Mary loved music and flowers and was a recipient of the “Yard of the Week”. She was a devoted woman who embraced prayer, who had a wonderful sense of humor that loved people and her family.
Survivors include her sons, Roy Vieyra, George Vieyra, Pat (Chris) Vieyra, and Roberto (Mary) Vieyra, all of North Platte; daughters, Juanita Garvin, Delores (Jesse) Lira, Helen (Alex) Sanchez, Anita Sanchez, Gina (Reuben) Rangel, all of North Platte, Irene Lopez of Lexington, Theresa (Don) Boese of Overland Park, KS, and Nellie (Len) Tominaga of Downey, CA; 2 brothers, Paul and Jesse Ybarra; over 100 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Frankie Vieyra; best friends, Judy and Leo Dailey of Tryon; and numerous other family members and many friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister Mercedes Cornejo; brothers, John, Joe, Pete, Galdino, Benny, and Frank; grandchildren, Rita Vieyra, Marty Perez, and Jonathon McCart Peterson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association and online condolences can be made at www.adamsswanson.com.
Christian Wake Services will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Rev. James Golka as celebrant. Burial will be at the North Platte Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. today at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
