Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska football team practiced for two hours in the Hawks Championship Center on Thursday. Offensive Coordinator Danny Langsdorf spoke with the media following practice.

“We were a little sloppy on Tuesday, but probably to be expected after 12 days, but I think we have really good energy and a lot of enthusiasm for the work, so I’m excited to see us continue to grow,” Langsdorf said. “I think we are continuing to build on what we started with before spring break and I just like the way we continue to evolve daily.”

Langsdorf added that he gets to see more with the running game as the team progresses into full pads practices.

“Those shorts practices are tough, because it’s not a real look,” Langsdorf said. “It’s kind of a mental rep day. It’s really more for guys getting in the right position throwing the ball and a little bit of run stuff. As we get pads on, we are able to hit with a lot more emphasis on the run. It’s very important.”

Langsdorf also talked about the quarterback depth behind Tommy Armstrong Jr.

“We’ve got the ability with four guys to get really even reps, which is nice,” Langsdorf said. “We are kind of broken up into two teams. Tommy and Ryker (Fyfe) are working with a team and Patrick (O’Brien) and AJ (Bush) are working with a team, and they are splitting reps 50/50.”

Langsdorf said all of the quarterbacks are making progress as the spring goes on. He added that O’Brien could compete for the No. 2 spot during Fall Camp.

“We talk about competition daily,” Langsdorf said. “They get graded daily on every play on their footwork and their decision and their throw and their undecision. We have a worksheet that shows their progress, but we are always competing and we haven’t made any decisions about anybody.”

Nebraska’s annual Red-White Spring Game is set for Saturday, April 16 at Memorial Stadium, with kickoff at 1 p.m. Tickets are available at Huskers.com, or by calling the Nebraska Athletics Ticket Office at 1-800-8 BIG RED.
