LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The city of Lincoln will pay $5,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a man over his failed plans for a downtown nightclub.
The settlement was reached Monday with Shane Harrington. He’d filed a federal discrimination lawsuit in 2014, alleging in part that former Lincoln police chiefs Tom Casady and Jim Peschong had religious beliefs that led their department to unfairly treat Harrington and the women he worked with. The lawsuit says the police actions influenced a state agency to reject his request for a liquor license.
Harrington told the newspaper that although the $5,000 is far short of the millions he sought, money was not the measure of his victory. In the settlement the city doesn’t admit any fault.
