
LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska track and field team swept the men’s and women’s team titles at the Husker Spring Invitational on a breezy Saturday before 768 fans at Ed Weir Stadium.
The Husker men finished with 241 points in the five-team meet to beat runner-up North Dakota State by 139 points. The Husker women totaled 180.5 points, 70 more than second-place South Dakota.
Nebraska won 16 event titles on the day, eight each in the field events and running events. Tierra Williams captured the long jump title with a mark of 20-9 (6.32m), good for No. 5 nationally. Williams later added the triple jump title with an outdoor personal-best 43-0 1/2 (13.12m). That mark ranks ninth in NU history and third nationally. Reka Czuth cleared an outdoor personal-best 6-0 1/2 (1.84m) in the high jump, which moves her into a tie for seventh in NU outdoor history.
Nick Percy continued his strong outdoor season with the discus title, throwing a personal-best 198-5 (60.49m), the sixth-best mark in NU history and No. 8 in the nation this season. Grant Anderson earned the men’s high jump title with a personal-best clearance of 7-1 3/4 (2.18m), which he nailed on his first attempt.
Craig Driver led a one-through-four Husker finish in the men’s pole vault, winning the title with a 17-0 (5.18m) clearance on his second attempt. Elijah Lucy was the men’s long jump winner with an outdoor PR 24-1 1/2 (7.35m).
Sarah Firestone capped off the day as the javelin champion with a throw of 172-10 (52.67) on her last attempt. On the men’s side, North Dakota State’s Matti Mortimore set an Ed Weir Stadium record with a throw of 248-8 (75.79m).
On the track, Antoine Lloyd was the winner of the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.05. Jake Nelson won the 400 meters with a personal best of 47.77. Malcolm White ran 10.40 in the 100 meters to win the event, and Karolina Pahlitzsch claimed the 400-meter hurdles in 1:00.30. Andy Neal won the men’s 400-meter hurdles title, posting a time of 53.03. Matt Gilbert captured the men’s 3,000 meters in 8:34.76.
Nebraska’s 4×400 relays swept the event titles to cap the running events. The women ran 3:44.75, while the men ran 3:12.95.
Saturday’s meet was the first of three at home for the Huskers in the outdoor season. NU also hosts the Nebraska Invitational on May 7 and the Big Ten Outdoor Championships May 13-15.
The Huskers travel to Austin, Texas next Saturday for the Texas Invitational.
