North Platte – The Omaha World-Herald announced their All-Nebraska Junior College Basketball teams for 2015-16 on Monday. Three North Platte Community College Knights and one Lady Knight were named to the first teams.
Tyree Peter, a sophomore from Omaha Benson, was named the honorary captain of the men’s team. Peter was earlier named to the All-Region IX team and All-NCCAC (Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference) team. Peter was the Most Valuable Player of the NCCAC this past season.
Peter averaged 10.3 points per game and 10.1 rebounds per game for the Knights. Peter had 140 offensive rebounds, which broke the long standing Knights single season record of 133 offensive rebounds set by Dave Benson in 1988.
Diontae Champion and Tim Wagner were named to the Second team.
Champion, a freshman from Arlington, Texas, averaged 15.2 points a game and 6.7 rebounds per game. Champion was also named to the All-NCCAC team and the Region IX All-Tournament team.
Wagner, a sophomore from Galesville, Wis., averaged 14.2 ppg and 3.8 assists per game. Wagner also was an All-NCCAC selection.
On the women’s team, Lady Knights Sarah Mahr was named to the second team of the All-Nebraska team.
Mahr, a sophomore from Sidney, led the Knights in scoring with a 13.8 scoring average and rebounding with 5.1 rebounds per game.
This honor adds to Mahr’s accolades as she was named to the All-Region IX Division II team, the All Region IX Division II Tournament team and the All-NCCAC team. Mahr also finished 18th on the Lady Knights all-time scoring charts with 582 career points.
Victor Lewis was named honorable mention on the men’s team, as was Djimonii Jackson, Suhmer Mitchell and Zulema Viescas on the women’s team.
The teams were voted on by coaches of the six junior colleges in the state of Nebraska, North Platte Community College, McCook Community College, Southeast Community College, Central Community College, Northeast Community College and Western Nebraska Community College.
