Two North Platte teens are facing charges after they allegedly stole a golf cart and one of them is accused of burglarizing a camper.
On the evening of May 4, deputies with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to Lake Maloney on the report of a partially submerged golf cart on the east side of the Lake. Deputies met with the owner of the golf cart who alleged that it had been taken from his campsite sometime after May 2.
The cart was removed from the water and had, according to the owner, sustained serious damage.
The investigation continued and deputies were able to locate two suspects, later identified as 18-year-old Colton Hunt and 17-year-old Elliott Weigel.
As a result of the investigation, deputies determined that there was probable cause to cite both subjects for felony theft, felony criminal mischief and trespassing.
Both were released to “responsible parties.”
Later in the day, a backpack belonging to Weigel was located near the location of the thefts. A search of the bag revealed items that had been reported stolen from a nearby camper.
Deputies again made contact with Weigel and placed him under arrest for an additional charge of felony burglary. Weigel was jailed at the Lincoln County Detention Center.
