Jean A. Hora of Ringgold, NE passed into the arms of Jesus on May 18, 2016 at GPH in North Platte.
Jean was born on February 25, 1927 in Climbing Hill, IA to Emmett and Alma (Solberg) Smith. She graduated from Climbing Hill High School and then Morning Side College in Sioux City, IA and Minneapolis Bible College. She taught music at East Junior High School in Sioux City, IA and at Mallard, IA. She played the oboe in the Omaha Symphony Orchestra. She met David E. Hora when she was visiting her cousin in Nebraska, and the couple was married September 26, 1964 in Climbing Hill. After the couple was married, she and Dave lived south of Ringgold where they ranched and fed cattle. Jean helped with the ranch work and cooked many meals for the hired help. She enjoyed horseback riding and always had a beloved dog by her side. She began teaching music, drama and speech at McPherson County High School in Tryon in 1973 and continued in that position for 17 years. She also taught private piano lessons and sang and was an accompanist for many functions, including church programs, weddings and funerals. Jean had a deep love for music. She devoted her entire life serving her Lord and Savior and supporting missionaries around the world.
Jean is survived by her husband David Hora of Ringgold; sisters-in-law Mary (Byron) Eatinger of Thedford and Charlotte (Don) Leeds of Kearney; nephews Chris (Willa) Dahl of Geneseo, IL and Greg (Nancy) Dahl of Comstock Park, MI; and other nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Vesta (Smith) Dahl; cousin Eileen Kugler; father-in-law and mother-in-law Vincent and Charlotte Hora; and brothers-in-law Francis “Frank” Hora and Thomas Hora.
Memorials are suggested in her name and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday May 24, 2016 at Parkview Community Church of Nazarene in North Platte. Officiating will be Reverend Dr. Hubert P. Harriman, President of World Gospel Mission, with Reverend Bob Margaron, Field Director for World Gospel Mission assisting. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery near Thedford, NE. Visitation will be noon until 9:00 p.m. Monday May 23, 2016 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
