SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (AP) — The Riverside Discovery Center zoo in Scottsbluff has reopened following its closure because of flooding.
The zoo reopened Wednesday morning after closing May 22 when the North Platte River overflowed. Some of the animals were moved for their safety. Zoo officials say a pond where koi, ducks, swans and Canada geese swim overflowed its banks into a bison enclosure. Another affected area was a barn where goats, donkeys and other animals in the petting zoo live.
Officials say flood expenses will include repairs to a building that had its main power source shorted, burning out all the appliances, heaters and lights.
