Canoeists find body in Platte River in central Nebraska

body-foundGIBBON, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say canoeists paddling on the Platte River have discovered a body in a channel in some brush.

The canoeists came across the body Friday afternoon.

Buffalo County Sheriff Capt. Bob Anderson says the body was clothed and was found around 4:30 p.m. near the Bassway Strip Wildlife Management Area. Authorities have not yet released other details, such as the identity of the person found or how long the body had been there.

An autopsy has been ordered by the Buffalo County Attorney’s Office.

Anderson said he is not unaware of any people who have been reported missing in the Kearney area.
