NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. (AP) — A 75-year-old man has been charged with sexually assaulting two residents at a Nebraska City nursing home.

Online records say Terry McClane, of Union, remained in Otoe County custody Wednesday. He’s charged with two felony and two misdemeanor counts of sexual assault and two felony counts of abuse of a vulnerable adult. The records don’t list the name of an attorney who could comment for him.

Prosecutors say McClane began visiting the Golden Living Centers facility while his wife lived there and continued after she died May 15. Staffers became suspicious after a June 17 incident and called police. Two residents say McClane sexually assaulted them between Jan. 1 and June 17.

Golden Living Centers Executive Director Jade Harrah says the facility is cooperating with authorities and the residents’ relatives.

microsoftSAN FRANCISCO (AP) — As Windows 10 approaches its first birthday, Microsoft is adding new features — giving its Cortana digital assistant more capabilities and offering people new ways to sign into websites and apps without passwords.

The company is also changing the wording of notices it sends to users of previous versions, following complaints that it was too aggressive in pushing them to get the free Windows 10 upgrade.

Microsoft’s “Anniversary Update,” scheduled for release Aug. 2, is free for anyone who already has Windows 10. Users of previous Windows versions must download the current version of Windows 10 by July 29 or pay $119 after that.

2 ordered to send trial in killing of Nebraska man in Kansas

gavel-and-scaleSALINA, Kan. (AP) — A judge has found sufficient evidence for two people to stand trial in the killing of a Nebraska man in a Salina motel parking lot.

21-year-old DiAntre Lemmie and 24-year-old Amber Craig were bound over for trial Tuesday. They are charged in the fatal April shooting of 32-year-old Adonis Loudermilk, of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Among the preliminary hearing witnesses was James Faircloth, who tattooed Lemmie at the motel. Faircloth said he heard Craig tell Lemmie that Loudermilk had a “wad” of cash, and that Lemmie vowed to “get that.” Later, Lemmie left the room, and Faircloth said he heard Lemmie say, “I know you got it,” followed by gunshots.

Fairchild testified Craig then said that she didn’t think Lemmie would “take it that far.”

Ricketts: Britain leaving EU an ‘opportunity’ for Nebraska

Gov. Pete Ricketts

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Gov. Pete Ricketts says Britain’s decision to leave the European Union could create opportunities for Nebraska even if it means short-term uncertainty.

Ricketts said Tuesday that the nation’s leaders should make sure they’re “first in line” for opportunities to open new trade relationships with the United Kingdom.

He says he won’t rule out a Nebraska trade mission to the country, but noted that the state has already committed to a visiting China this year and such trips take time to plan.

Ricketts says Britain is Nebraska’s 19th largest trading partner, and the changes that are coming could provide benefits if the state looks for them.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Police say officers have arrested a man who got a 16-year-old drunk and then had sex with her in a portable toilet and elsewhere near downtown Lincoln.

Court records say 36-year-old Marvin Velasquez is charged with sexual assault of an incompetent person. They don’t list the name of an attorney who could comment for Velasquez.

The records say the girl told investigators that her boyfriend dropped her off downtown around 5 p.m. June 21 so she could meet a friend. She says she came upon a man whom she asked to buy her alcohol. An affidavit says the two shared the booze while sitting under a bridge. She says he then forced her into having sex in the portable toilet and elsewhere because she was too drunk to stop him.

Ricketts touts milestone of 1 million nonfarm Nebraska jobs

ne-dept-of-laborLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska had an average of 1 million nonfarm jobs for the first time last year, and the number has grown steadily since 2010.

Gov. Pete Ricketts touted the milestone on Tuesday at a news conference with state labor and economic development officials and business leaders.

The Nebraska Department of Labor reports that the state saw a net increase of more than 13,000 jobs between 2014 and last year. Trade, transportation and utility jobs had the highest employment levels, followed by education and health care services.

Ricketts says he plans to keep pushing for job and business growth with a business summit, international trade missions, a first-in-the-nation state reemployment program and efforts to reduce taxes.
