Southeastern Nebraska homeowners awake to sewer backups

oh-thats-nastyLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Several homeowners in Waverly say they’re cleaning up thick sludge and sewage from their basements in the wake of this week’s heavy rainfall.

The sewage backup that hit homeowners near 143rd Street and Amberly Road in the southeastern Nebraska town followed severe storms Thursday morning.

The homeowners say construction crews working nearby built a small dam in order to prevent rain water and mud from affecting area homes, but it didn’t work. The homeowners are now asking who is going to pay to clean up the mess.

Some homeowners say they’ve been talking with the construction company about covering the cleanup costs.
