The National Weather Service in North Platte has issued a heat
advisory...which is in effect from 1 PM CDT /noon MDT/ this
afternoon to noon CDT /11 am MDT/ Wednesday. 

* Temperature: high temperatures today will be around 100. The
  highest impact days will be Wednesday and Thursday...where high
  temperatures will be in the upper 90s to lower 100s. Similar
  highs are expected again on Friday. Max heat index values in the
  afternoon between 100 to 105 are expected. There will be little
  relief overnight with minimum heat index values in the mid 60s
  to lower 70s.

* Impacts: the longevity of this event will result in a 
  dangerous situation for sensitive groups...children...the 
  elderly...or those with medical conditions. Leaving a child or 
  pet in an enclosed vehicle can be deadly...even for a short 
  time.

An excessive heat watch means that a prolonged period of hot
temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and
high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in
which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids...stay
