Kaye Marie (Tuma) Borden, age 46 of North Platte, NE began her eternal life Monday August 8, 2016 surrounded by her family at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE.
Kaye was born on February 20, 1970 in North Platte, NE to Donald and Twylia Irene (Bobo) Tuma. She attended all her school years in North Platte, graduating in 1988. After high school she enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was in the cryptology field. She was stationed in Edzell, Scotland where she met her husband to be, John Borden. Her next tour was in San Diego, CA where she was honorably discharged in 1994. Kaye and John returned to North Platte to be married at St. Patrick’s Church on May 5, 1995, and eventually made their home in North Platte in 1997. In 1998 they welcomed their son Christopher into their family. Highlights of her life were watching her son grow up and play sports, her family, Husker games, Detroit Redwing hockey games, F C Barcelona soccer, baking for others, especially kolaches and “Decadent Desserts” for the Friday night fish frys at the parish hall. She was especially focused on taking care of her dad after her mother passed away in 2010. She took on the role of being a mother as she did everything, giving it her all and always putting Christopher before herself. Kaye had a lot of limitations, but nothing stopped her once she set her mind to it. She had the strongest will anyone could have. She belonged to St. Patrick’s Parish, was a member of the Catholic Daughters and the editor of their newsletter, she was the Catholic Daughters Sunshine Committee, she was active in Catholic school activities, especially in the McDaid library when her son was in elementary school, she also helped create and organize the parish library with Mary Ellis.
Kaye is survived by her husband John; son Christopher; father Donald Tuma; sister Robyn (Rocky) Torres; twin sister Karen (Gary) Bassett; nieces Jessica Binegar, Julia Kellie and Jenna Torres; nephews Jory Torres and Jeremiah Binegar; great nieces Pyper and Audrianna; and great nephew Leighton; as well as other extended family members and many friends.
