Lucilla Magdalene (Helms) Carr

Carr

Lucilla Magdalene (Helms) Carr joined her Lord on August 10, 2016, at Life Care Center of Elkhorn, NE. She was the youngest of 11 children born to Henry and Bertha (Hinz) Helms at the farm at Arapahoe, NE on October 6, 1931. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended school at Immanuel Parochial School in Arapahoe. Her early years were spent helping her parents on the family farm, later going to North Platte where she was employed at Woolworth’s and as a medical receptionist. In later years, she was employed as secretary at Cornhusker Ag Aviation. On October 12, 1952, she was married to Roscoe Carr, Jr. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in North Platte. They made their home on the family farm at Wellfleet for 45 years, where they raised their five children, moving to North Platte in 1997. She moved to Omaha in 2010 and resided with her daughters and later moved to Life Care Center in Elkhorn. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Wellfleet until its closure, joining St. John’s Lutheran in Curtis until moving to North Platte and then joining Our Redeemer Lutheran. She served for many years as Sunday school teacher and Superintendent, LWML officer, choir member, and as church organist for 45 years at Wellfleet and Curtis, being self-taught. She was a member of Opal Springs Extension Club for many years. Lucilla was not privileged to receive a high school education, thus it was one of her greatest joys to obtain her GED at age 55, graduating as the top honor graduate in a class of 70. Lucilla was a wonderful cook, winning the Grand Prize for her Lemon Cheesecake. She was gracious with her care packages of food for others. She had a tremendous love for her many grandchildren. Being a wonderful seamstress, she sewed for them…from pillows to prom dresses!
Surviving are sons Mark of Maywood, David (Sheryl) of Wellfleet, Chris (Brenda) of San Luis Obispo, CA, and daughters Diana (Paul) Goldenstein of Gretna, and Susan (Michael) Westcott of Elkhorn.
