Michael Anthony Wolken, age 63 of Sutherland, passed away on Friday August 19, 2016 in Lincoln, NE after a 5 ½ year battle with cancer, surrounded by family.
Mike was born on December 6, 1952 in Paola, KS to Ralph and Shirley (Weiland) Wolken. After high school he served in the Navy from July of 1972 thru July of 1978. He married Laura Lea Rose at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church in Madison, NE on June 16, 1972. After being honorably discharged from the Navy he worked for 31 years for NPPD at CNS and GGS. Mike was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in North Platte and a past member of the Lions Club in Hershey. He loved his family, always attending his children’s and grandchildren’s events. His favorite passion was fishing with his highlight being the annual sons & brothers fishing trip.
Mike is survived by his wife Laura of 44 years, children Jermi (Jenni) Wolken of Donnellson, IA, Shane Wolken of Hershey, NE, Brian (Lisa) Wolken of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren Jessica, Jacob, Sydney, MacKenzie, Bradley and Rory; parents Ralph and Shirley Wolken of Stanton, NE; siblings Doug (Lisa) Wolken of Madison, NE, Gary (Karen) Wolken of Meadow Grove, NE, Eugene (Paula) Wolken of Madison, NE, Randy (Kim) Wolken of Plainview, NE, Daniel (Janet) Wolken of Madison, NE; sisters-in-laws Lorraine (Peter) Goldstein of Colorado Springs, CO, Linda (Ken) Strasburg of Albuquerque, NM, Lynn (Tom) Roginski of Aurora, CO; as well as 22 nieces and nephews, other extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by nephews Alex Wolken, Adam Wolken, Grant Wolken; Danny Goldstein; and in-laws Gerald and Glena Rose.
Memorials are suggested in his name for donation to the Callahan Cancer Center and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. The Christian Wake Service will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday August 25, 2016 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday August 26, 2016 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with the Reverend James Novakowski as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Ft. McPherson Nation Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday August, 25, 2016 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
