Carol Shearer, 74, of North Platte, passed away August 20, 2016, at her home. She was born on June 10, 1942, in Ogallala to George and Gertrude (Harris) Cross. Carol graduated from Arthur High School in 1960. She was united in marriage to Donald Lee Shearer in 1972 at Grant and moved to Brady that same year. She lived in Brady for 17 years where they owned and operated Stuckey’s and moved to North Platte for the past 26 years. She was also employed by Hehnke’s in Paxton, Sixth Street, Country General and The Dollar Store, retiring in 2011. She was a member of the Eagles Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a stepson, Doug Shearer; granddaughter, Erin Shearer; and niece, Karen Kramer. She is survived by daughter, Julie (Mike) Snider of North Platte; stepson, Dondi (Ronda) Shearer of Kearney; brothers, Jay (Janet) Cross of Menlo Park, California and Gary (Judy) Cross of Ogallala; sisters, Ann (Bob) Kramer of North Platte and Marge (Leonard) Sherman of Loveland, Colorado; granddaughters, Heather (Jordan Warner) Shearer of Cozad, Mandy (Benny Torrez) Snider of Twin Falls, Idaho and Brooke Shearer of Kearney; grandsons, Devin (Brittany Pochop) Dunbar and Drew Dunbar both of North Platte; great grandchildren, Dylan, Elaina and Jaxon of North Platte and Twin Falls, Idaho; also many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made in her memory. A celebration of Carol’s life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, at First United Methodist Church. Dinner will follow at the Eagles Club.
