Mary Jane Turner, age 96, of Omaha, NE, formerly of North Platte, NE, died Tuesday, August 23, 2016, in Omaha.
Mary was born December 21, 1919, to John and Bessie Jones in Mason City, IA.
On September 24, 1941, Mary was united in marriage to John Russell Turner in Grand Island, NE. Since John was an air traffic controller, the couple lived in Hawaii, Alaska, California, Minnesota, Utah and Nevada, before settling in North Platte in 1954. They were married for over 52 years when John passed away in 1994.
Mary lived in North Platte for 60 years. She had worked at First National Bank and was a member of P.E.O. She was an avid golfer, bridge player, and a world traveler. In 2014 Mary moved to Omaha to be closer to her family.
She is survived by her sons, Douglas Scott (Cathie) Turner and David Alan (Mindy) Turner, of Omaha; daughter, Terry (Steve) Williams, of Ashland, NE; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Turner, of Spokane, WA; eight grandkids; 11 great-grandkids, with another on the way; as well as other family.
Along with her husband, John, Mary was preceded in death by their son, Randall James; and parents, John and Bessie Jones.
Graveside Funeral Service will be 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 26, 2016, in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or on Friday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established to the North Platte Good Fellows Shoe Fund.
