NPCC Lady Knights volleyball lose two on opening day of Subway Invite

josie palmerNorth Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights lost two matches on the opening day of the Subway Invitational.

In the first match of the day, the Lady Knights fell to the Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers in four sets, 25-23, 25-19, 18-25, and 25-11.

The Lady Knights in the first set fell behind the Lady Lancers 10-5, but rallied to tie the score at 19. After going back and forth for the remainder of the set, the Lady Lancers outscored the Lady Knights 6-4 to win the first set.

In the third set of the match, the Lady Knights jumped out to an 8-1 lead and held on to win the set, 25-18.

In the final set, the score was close and was tied at nine. The Lady Lancer’s Alexandra Simmerman, from Ogallala served 14 straight points to secure the win.

Josie Palmer led the Lady Knights with nine kills. Jessica Lovitt added five kills. Shelby Wolever had 14 set assists and Madi Gilg had 10 defensive digs to lead the Lady Knights.

In the second match of the day, the Lady Knights lost to the Casper College Thunderbirds in three sets, 27-25, 25-19, and 25-20.

Palmer, Brooklyn Krehmeyer, and MaKenna Ketter each had six kills for the Lady Knights.

Wolever had nine set assists, and Megan Chintala had 10 defensive digs.

The Lady Knights drop to 0-3 on the season and continue play in the Subway Invite on Saturday, when they play Colby Community College at 9 a.m., and McCook Community College at 1 p.m.
