Teresa ‘Arlene’ Nida, age 69, of North Platte, NE, died after a long battle with cancer on Thursday, September 8, 2016, at Great Plains Health in North Platte.
Arlene was born on December 2, 1946, to Milford Freeman and Teresa Isabel Clark Nida at North Platte where she grew up. She graduated from North Platte High School in 1965 then worked as a nurse’s aide at Memorial Hospital and later Great Plains Regional Medical Center. Arlene retired in 1992 due to health concerns then enjoyed being the bookkeeper for the North Platte Answering Service, which was owned by her sister, Doris.
Arlene belonged to the First Christian Church and the church quilting group. She enjoyed reading and listening to music. She also loved to be around children and was ‘Nana’ to her nephews, Matthew and David Cooper.
She is survived by her sisters, Arvada Czaplewski, of Grand Island, NE, and Doris (Paul) Cooper and Rose Nida, of North Platte; nieces and nephews, Vikki (Doug) Henry, Valeri (Ryan) McMahon, Matthew (Alicia) Cooper, David Cooper, Russell (Peggy) Czaplewski, Rick Czaplewski and Rob (Amy) Czaplewski; great-nieces and nephews, Sophia and Sylvia Cooper, Erin and Breckyn McMahon, Jenna Czaplewski and Everett, Darien and Erik Henry; her aunt, Maxine Yohn, of Tucson, AZ; uncle, Bill Nida, of Grand Island, NE; and other family and friends.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Milford and Teresa Nida; an infant sister, Mary Beth; brother-in-law, Jim Czaplewski; and grandparents, aunts and uncles.
Cremation was chosen. Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2016, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Pastor Jan Ekstedt officiating. Inurnment will follow in the North Platte Cemetery. The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore which is in charge of arrangements. The family has established a memorial.
