OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The mayor of Nebraska’s largest city has been hospitalized after falling during a morning walk.

Mayor Jean Stothert’s office said in a news release that she fell early Thursday while walking her dogs and was taken to Nebraska Medical Center with severe back pain.

The office says scans show Stothert suffered a fractured vertebra in her lower back.

Stothert’s medical team is working to determine whether she needs surgery.
